Mr. Sanjeev Gupta, Director, Partner n Progress

Mr. Sanjeev Gupta started the lecture by explaining the importance of emotions and feelings in our lives, which according to him play an important role in developing one's personality. According to Mr. Gupta, time should be utilized efficiently and we should also learn the term ROTI, which means Return on Time Invested. Then he explained the term entrepreneurship and its importance Mr. Gupta said that bravery, courage and zeal are the important ingredients for becoming an entrepreneur. Moreover if a person wants to be successful then he should not be afraid of failure. With some interesting stories and examples he explained the concept, importance and the scope of social entrepreneurship in a country like India.

Mr. Sudhi Ranjan Dey interacted and shared his corporate learning with students. He emphasized on the fact that in the competitive scenario students have to synchronize their pace with the prevailing competition. He gave importance to values and explained how choice of job can influence the career of individual. Guest Lecture on Performance Appraisal

Rai Business School,delhi organized a guest lecture for students on Performance & Compensation Spectrum.

The speaker Dr. Atul Jain , an eminent person from the industry spoke on the topic performance & compensation. He shared his practical experiences from the industry. He took the students through a detailed spectrim about how performance is related to compensation in an industry. The students also came to know what various things are to be kept in mind while framing the HR policies of a company.

The lecture was very good and it enhanced the students knowledge about the corporate world.

Professor N.S Ramaswamy - a Padma Bhushan, Member of Board of IIM Bangalore

Professor N.S Ramaswamy - a Padma Bhushan; member of Board of IIM Bangalore and a National Professor for Management – delivered a two-hour lecture on the importance of management to the MBA students of Rai Business School, New Delhi Designated at prominent positions with several eminent institutions like Indian Heritage Academy, Cartman, Institue of Sustainable Development et al, Prof. N.S. Ramaswamy discussed how management is helpful in our day-to-day life. He exhorted that management is not only essential in the corporate world but also in our daily state of affairs.

He also discussed the significance of spirituality in individual’s life. “Simple living and high thinking” should be the motto of our life and one must believe in the philosophy of good Karma.

Prof. Ramaswamy also recited shalokas for the students. In addition to his discussion on all the necessary elements that makes a happy living, he highlighted the importance of exercise and advised the RBS students to follow it for an active and healthy lifestyle. The session concluded with the question answer round to clear doubts from the Professor.

Mr Kamal Singh, Director AIMA
Topic: "Emerging Challenges in Global Business"

Mr. Singh discussed about Global Management the Emerging challenges in global business world. He explained how globalization affects trade, finance, production, communication and technology and how these changes continue to reshape our work and nonwork lives. He concluded the lecture by giving an insight into Globalization, Technology & Innovation and Internet and E-Business with the help of industry examples like IPL, Big Bazaar, Blue Dart, IIT's, IIM's etc
It was an interactive session where students participated in the talk and gave their views on various concepts.

Prof. Bharat Sarath, Vice Chairman, Rutgers University, New Jersey
Topic: Special Purpose Entity

Prof. Sarath discussed about Special Purpose Entity- a financial accounting concept which was absolutely new and unheard for the students. He briefed the students about the relevance and importance of SPE's in the global financial world and told them how SPE's are used by companies to isolate their firms from financial risk. He explained how a company can use SPE to finance a large project without putting the entire firm at risk. Students learnt that SPE is an integral part of public private partnerships in Europe but is still in its nascent stage in India. He made the concept clear by giving the example of ENRON. The session ended on an interactive note where Prof Sarath cleared the queries of the students.

Topic: Recruitment and Selection

Mr Jain discussed about the various processes involved in the procedure of recruitment and selection and said that a good recruitment strategy can really help in boosting a company's growth. He even discussed about the various qualities like communication skills, positive attitude, conflict management and leadership skills that a company looks for, in a prospective candidate. The session was informative and interesting for the students.

Topic: The Power of Emotional Intelligence

Mr Nishit Lal briefed the students about role of emotional intelligence in one's life and how leaders and visionaries create their own path by being emotionally sound and stable. He even told the students that one should identify his strengths and weaknesses and grab the opportunities accordingly. He even motivated the students to set goals which are realistic, specific and measurable and then work passionately in order to achieve the same.

Topic: You will always become what you want to be

Mr Banerjee started his session by discussing varied topics like Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Importance of technology and Leadership. He also briefed the students about various tools like competency, benchmarking, knowledge, attitude, values and beliefs and how these tools can be used effectively to achieve one's goals.
The session was highly interesting and informative for the students.

Mr. Anurag Sharma, Asst General Manager, Moserbear Pvt. Ltd delivered a lecture on "People Skills" for MBA students.

Mr. Sharma is having a corporate experience of over 15 years and has worked in HR department for major companies in India.

He told that people skills are really important for every person in today's scenario to survive in this corporate world.

He said that while talking one should avoid words like "I, Me, Myself etc." He explained that use of such statements is important for making a person successful. He gave effective ways to avoid arguments and told the right way of dealing with our juniors, colleagues and seniors. He further described the ways effective enough to convince others.

It was really an impressive lecture and was very interactive. The session was highly informative which was enjoyed by the students.

Mr. Debatanu Mukherjee, AVP, Angel broking

Mr. Debtanu Mukherjee shared his knowledge with the students on "Advertising and FABIO Principle". Students got knowledge about how an advertisement is planned and the key points in planning an advertisement. FABIO principle deals with the features, advantages, benefits, images and offers of the product. His main agenda was to make the students aware of ABC's of advertising. He talked about the identification of key advantages of the product that any company would want to promote, use of images which convey the lifestyle associated with any product. Lastly, an offer made is called as "call to action" which includes limited time promotions, coupons to enhance the sales etc. His interaction was very interesting and students participated in the discussion painstakingly.

Dr. Nirmal Singh, Advisor, Technia Institute of Advanced Studies

The students of RBS got an opportunity to meet "Dr. Nirmal Singh" - Advisor (Technia Institute of Advanced Studies). Dr. Nirmal Singh has been associated with management education, especially human resource management, for more than three decades now.

After having served for more than two decades at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, he founded the Guru Nanak Institute of Management at Punjabi Bagh in West Delhi.

Apart from being the founder chairman of Guru Teg Bahadur Polytechnic Institute and Guru Teg Bahadur Institute of Technology, he is the Honorary Management Advisor to the Government of Punjab and All India Council of Technical Education.

Dr. Singh gave his precious time on the basics of "Human Resource Management and Personality Development". The students learned about how HRM is vehemently required in every organization along with the role of HR Personnel. In addition to it, he threw light on the tricks and tactics of Selection, Payroll criteria as well as some Interview questions. He also explained the meaning of personality and how it can be developed. The students thoroughly enjoyed his session and look forward to meet him again.

There was a guest lecture session at Rai Business School, Delhi by Mr. Kamal Singh. It was a great pleasure to have an eminent personality like Mr. Kamal Singh, Director - CMD, AIMA amongst us.

The lecture started with a brief introduction to the students. The topic of the lecture was "Emerging Challenges in Global Business Environment". He gave valuable tips regarding qualities of a good manager and focused on the importance of soft skills in the global world. He also mentioned that a good manager should have a positive attitude and leadership skills in order to be successful as a manager. He also described about the following skills required for a successful manager:

1) Passion to win
2) Creativity and innovation
3) Flexibility
4) Efficiency
5) Quality
6) Execution holds
7) Managing in the era of uncertainty

The session was highly informative and interactive. The information given by Mr. Singh was very important for the students as budding managers.

Mr. Manik Katyal, Regional Head-Hindustan Times

Mr. Manik Katyal (Regional head -Hindustan Times Limited) delivered a guest lecture to students on "Know your customer norms". He interacted with the students and made an attempt to prepare the students to face the "real" world. He said that a sales person needs to understand the basics and more importantly the "customer". He started his discussion with some quotations in context to customers. One of his quotation was "A man needs a MAN to purchase a product". Here MAN stands for Money, Affordability and Needs. He insisted on giving information about the products to the prospective customer who has the desire as well as money to purchase the product and that is how we can convert a prospective customer into a real customer.

He also emphasized on a few questions which a sales person must consider like:

• Who will buy?
• When to buy?
• How to buy?
• Where to buy?
• Why to buy?

In addition to above mentioned points, he insisted on the knowledge about the market and the norms framed by various companies in relation to the Know Your Customer (KYC) norm.

The discussion was very interactive and students enjoyed the management games framed by Mr. Katyal.

Mr. Saurabh Sinha, Head - India Operations, IndiAds 7 CentruMedia

Mr. Suarabh Sinha visited Rai Business School, Delhi to give an insight to MBA students about Advertising and Public Relations.

Mr. Sinha is presently working as Head - India Operations with IndiAds & CentruMedia - USA (Orlando) based providing end-to-end Internet advertising and web solutions.

Mr. Saurabh Sinha began the session on a very light note by taking a quick introduction of each and every student. After that he briefed about his organization. He showed a very interesting presentation to the students in which he described about advertising and its effect. He pointed out the significance of advertising for organizations across the globe. He laid emphasis on why certain activities like confidence building, networking, branding etc. are important for the success of any organization.

Further, he also illustrated what exactly PR is and why do companies have Brand Ambassadors. Thus, it was a very interactive session and the students were overwhelmed by his way of expression and explanation.

Mr. Raj Kamal Gupta, Vice President HR, Lurgi India Ltd.

Students of Rai Business School got an opportunity to meet a personality who made them realise, what the meaning of success is and how it can be achieve. In our life we are missing small things and if we make a count of not all but only small things, we will find a big change in our life. If we define success, it is a stage where we realise ourselves sincerely and appreciate ourselves.
Mr. Gupta said that India needs mentally alert, talented, bright, disciplined and responsible young men and women. For being successful, one needs to decide the objective and also the target must be clearly defined. Before heading towards the target, one needs to make a strategy and for achieving the target begin by taking small steps that can be performed. After achievement of these small objectives, appraise the performance inside out. He said that if we don't respect ourselves nobody will respect us. Always be passionate about something and try to do quality work. Put in extra effort because this extra effort distinguishes you from others.

Furthermore, one should posses the ability to learn and unlearn which means that always try to grasp something new. He enlightened the students by telling them the importance of communication not only in daily life but also in the corporate world, which comprises of complexity. He said that the corporate world is very dynamic in nature where things are changing very abruptly so it is very necessary to change ourselves according to the demand and having good communication skills to understand and make others understand. Now the question is how we can improve our communication? And he gave some easy tips for improving communication skills. In the end by showing some clippings, he tried to convey the message that indulging in extra-curricular activities is very essential for grooming one's personality. He concluded by saying that one should never be afraid of defeat because defeat is a part of success i.e. they complement each other.

Dr. Rajesh Chaudhary, Manager HR, Pantaloon Retail India


Dr. Rajesh Chaudhary visited Rai Business School, Delhi campus and shared his views on "Competency Management" with the students of MBA. He is working as manager HR with Pantaloon Retail India Limited.

He started his lecture by giving various definitions in relation to competency, knowledge, skill and attitude. He explained that Competency is a combination of knowledge, skills and attitude which are required by any professional to grow in the industry. Further, he discussed the framework of competency and the competency mapping. The competency mapping includes assessment centre, 360 degree feedback and psychometric testing (it includes ability test, personality test and interest test). He also explained the "Ice berg model", Threshold competency. Further, he explained about the differentiating competency and its two different types. He explained everything with the help of suitable examples.

Mr. Ramesh Menon, Director-Aurobindo College

A guest lecture session was organised at RBS, Delhi by Mr. Ramesh Menon on communication skills and positive thinking. Mr. Menon is a well-known corporate trainer and an award winning journalist. He is also a Director of Aurobindo Institute of Mass Communication.

The session started with a brief introduction of the presenter followed by a short introduction of the students. Mr. Menon emphasized on the importance of the communication skills in the present day scenario. He also focused on how on the basis of these interactive skills students or people get selected for the placement. Mr. Menon also described the importance and value of positive thinking in our personal as well as professional life. The key points given were:

1) Reading of newspapers regularly
2) Writing Diaries
3) Involving a bigger picture in our writing innovative and important thinking, cut out garbage.
4) Speaking with others and yourself, exploration and listening.

All the points told by Mr. Menon were very important for the development of ones personality and communication skills. Even the exercises he asked to practice would surely prove to be very helpful for the students. The session was very enlightening and motivational.

Mr. Sunil Gupta, Head - IT & Communication, Ministry of Steel

Mr Sunil Kumar Gupta delivered a lecture on "Leadership, Motivation and role of IT in today's era". He is working as the head of Information and Communication Technology in the economic research unit of Ministry of Steel. He is a member of various committees and sub-committees of industry chambers like ASSOCHAM, CII, ICM etc.

Mr. Gupta explained how leadership and motivation are important in present scenario. His views were not only limited to leadership and motivation but he covered following aspects also:
• Attitude
• Wisdom
• Difference between wisdom and knowledge
• Rules of success
• Behavior

He explained how positive attitude can help to get success in the corporate world.
With regards to the role of IT in today's era, he talked about the concepts like E - Commerce, M - Commerce, ERP, MIS, Supply chain management, CRM, DBMS. His views proved very helpful to the students to understand the difference between leadership and motivation. The students liked the session and look forward to have more such sessions that are informative and encouraging.

Mr. Vivek Aggarwal, CEO - Eliqvid

Rai Business School, Delhi organised a guest lecture by Mr. Vivek Aggrawal - CEO (Liqvid). The topic of the talk was "Entrepreneurship as a career." He began by saying that a coin is a metaphor which has 2 sides. He explained that an individual gets only a half chance to decide about his/her career and the rest is one's ability to convert those half chances into sure shot achievements. He showed different slides with the help of pie-charts and asked the students about how important it is for them to be in an executive position .He also emphasized that the choice or plan of career must match the capability level. Mr. Aggarwal further stated that one needs to identify the right rate of growth for oneself. One must realise his/her core competency. We need to be focussed in life and to achieve success there is never one route to it. Therefore, one must explore several ways to reach ones aim.

It was quite an interesting session and was an eye-opener. It helped the students to identify what they want to achieve in their life.

Rai Business School, Delhi organized a Guest Lecture by Mr. Rishi Arora, Vice President, Plug2india. He delivered a lecture on "Innovation and how it makes a man perfect". A good team work always leads to perfection. He organised a simulation exercise for which he divided the class into four departments as HR, Marketing, Research & Development and Production department. The students were very participative and gave their views and ideas towards a particular project. The main objective was to garner various ideas from the students and to analyse a particular solution, which helps the process of innovation. After reaching to a solution, he mentioned that Mission, Vision and Scope are the indispensable part of any organization. The entire exercise was aimed at giving the students knowledge on how to become an entrepreneur.

Mr. Deep Bajaj, Account Director, Thyme India Ltd.

Rai Business School, Delhi organised a Guest Lecture by Mr. Deep Bajaj, Account Director (Thyme India Ltd.). He delivered a lecture on "Strategy and Events of Advertising". He highlighted the basic promotional mix that is essential for a marketer to promote his products in the market. He discussed about above-the-line and below-the-line advertising, the difference between the two and their application according to the requirement. In addition, he described about different strategies that can be used to promote the product in the competitive market. He also explained the importance of advertising in formation of consumer behavior and brand. Finally, the concept of IMC (Integrated Marketing Communication) was discussed by him in detail.

Mr. Anupam Sharma, Chief Consultant, Brainpower

A Guest Lecture by Mr. Anupam Sharma, Chief Consultant (Brainpower), was organized. He delivered a lecture on "Being Good to Great" in which he took the students to the mythological era and discussed about the Amrit Manthan. He also explained the concept of motivation and its importance in the management world. Mr. Sharma discussed the fundamentals of life and how they can be practiced. He said one should set deadlines for long-term duration to attain their goals. Infact, they should always be on toes and not on heels, which will eventually help them in facing the forthcoming situations. At the end of the presentation, he suggested effective time management skills and how thinking differently from others would enhance their work in a unique way.

Mr. K.L. Khetarpaul, Director,Reserve Bank Of India

Rai Business School students got an opportunity to interact with Mr. Mr Krishan Lall Khetarpaul. He joined the Board of Directors of Reserve Bank of India on 23rd January, 2008 as an Independent non-executive Director. He is a seasoned banker having more than 37 years of experience with the Reserve Bank of India including 16 years of Banking regulation/ supervision. Mr. Khetarpaul took an interactive session where he discussed with the students about the banking sector in India.

He explained in his session about the different types of banks that exist today which includes the Cooperative sector, the Gram in Banks, The foreign Banks and the Nationalized Banks etc. He discussed about each and every type of bank in detail along with the pros and cons of each bank. He also enlightened the students about the financial interests and different types of savings options available. He threw light on the various investment schemes which are offered by different banks. He further explained the functioning of these banks and their ways of coordination with each other.

It was a very knowledgeable session and the students really got a lot of information about the banking sector in India.
