All India Management Association
(AIMA) in collaboration with Rai Business School (RBS) conducted the
16th National Competition for Business Management Simulations from May
29 to June 4, 2007 at Delhi. During the award ceremony of regional
round, AIMA Director, Mr. Kamal Singh said, "Chanakya: A Business
Game paves the way for the development of managerial acumen in budding
professionals." Mr. A. Mahapatra Director HR, MMPTC was the chief
guest of the grand finale of regional round. Rai Foundation Managing
Director, Mr. Suresh Sachdeva, was also present at the award ceremony.
Mr. Suresh Sachdeva said, "Indian economy is growing with
scorching pace. Now, the telecom sector expansion in India is faster
than China, which speaks volumes." He added that simulations help
build team spirit in the participants, which was very important in
critical decision-making. Emphasizing the importance of teamwork, he
said, "For growth, India requires professionals who are apt in team
work instead of individual work."
Mr. Mahapatra said, "With the help of my long experience in
management, I can say that decisions make or break organizations. The
simulations help inculcate decision making ability in crunch situations."
These management games are based on simulation of real business
environment. Participants are confronted with business issues such as to
develop a strategy, execute tactics, analyze competitors, and see the
business effect of such decisions.
Chanakya is a computer simulated business management game based on
specifically created scenarios that focus on developing business acumen
and to hone decision-making skills of participants. The game is spread
over five rounds and takes two days to complete. Participants of the
game are drawn from different functional areas. The teams of Indian Oil
Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) got first runner up and runners up trophy of
Group A. National Thermal Power Corporation emerged winner in Group A.
The team of Reliance Industries clinched the winning slot in Group B.
The winners of the regional round moved to national round. Mr. Singh
said, "the participation itself is a victory and winning and losing
matters little, what matters is learning." He also appreciated the
role of all the RBS faculty and students of Delhi Campus who contributed
to make the event a great success.
