Industry-Academia Interaction at RBS, Bangalore
Directors from HP, AWAKE, BMTC and Jeevan Electricals impart knowledge Rai Business School (RBS) always
endeavors to constantly give its students maximum industry exposure
through industry interaction, industry training, live projects, etc. In
an extension to these efforts, RBS, Bangalore had organized an industry
interaction series on different business related issues:
Entrepreneurship, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Financial
Solutions, etc., where Directors and Resource persons from HP, AWAKE,
BMTC and Jeevan Electricals & Diesels Ltd imparted industrial
knowledge to the PG & UG Management students . The aim of the
program that started on 19 th August 06' was to move beyond theory and
understand the practical aspects of the functioning of modern business
enterprises that are expanding with breakneck pace, hence making
management professionals play a very crucial role in it.
Mrs. Revathi Venkatraman, resource person from AWAKE (Karnataka's biggest association of women entrepreneurship), began the series on 19 th August 06' through her lecture on 'Structure & history of AWAKE and Turn around Cases of Successful entrepreneurs.' She threw light on the challenges faced by the AWAKE & women entrepreneur in general while implementing management concepts and practices at gross route level. The second lecture was on 23 rd August 06' by Mr. D.C. Prakash, Resource person, MIS Wing, BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation), the only profit making Public Sector Transport Corporation in India. The topic of his lecture was 'Strategic Managerial Practices of BMTC', where he elaborated to the students of RBS, Bangalore, the concepts of strategic satellite operational units, strategies adopted to reduce the turnaround costs and strategic upgrading of quality & prices. He further said that even after the turnaround caused by globalization, the public sector has a formidable presence in India. The third lecture in the series on 2 nd September 06' was by Mr. Pankaj Jain, Executive Director, Jeevan Electricals & Diesels Ltd. The title of his talk was ' Entrepreneurship - Challenges and rewards'. He highlighted the failure rate of entrepreneurship in a country like USA and the rewards associated with the success. He went on to say that the Indian scenario is also inching towards the same, but the industry is strong enough to reap awards in this situation too. Mr. Sabyasachi Banerjee, Project Manager, Hewlett Packard on 9 th September 06' delivered the recent lecture on 'ERP and Financial Solutions.' He elucidated the cost optimization issues through Enterprise resource planning (ERP) and the process improvement that enables the organization to release capital for business expansion. He also discussed various challenges with RBS students that an organization encounters in ERP process. The Bangalore campus head Mr. K. Balasubramanian said, " With the conduction of such regular programs, Rai Business School is targeting to fill the gap in the demand & supply of skilled manpower in the rapidly converging industry. The objective of the program is to prepare students with the relevant & practical skills, training & knowledge by introducing interactive teaching methodology rather than imparting mere theoretical knowledge. This kind of teaching & learning module will ensure guaranteed placement for all students in best of the companies."
